![]() Fury Road proposed an alternate timeline of events, one where the cause of civilization’s collapse centered on environmental issues and which suggests that nuclear war was fought over water resources. The landscape is even more arid and unsurvivable than in the original trilogy, possibly because of the “water wars”, as a newscaster’s voice mentions in the movie trailer’s voiceovers. In the rebooted Mad Max: Fury Road, all remaining vital resources from water to vehicles and oil, have been hoarded by Immortan Joe, the leader of The Citadel. A nuclear apocalypse destroyed the world and all rule of law, hence why Aunty (Tina Turner) and the Collector (Frank Thring) created Bartertown to rebuild civilization, one created on a methane-based energy economy. In Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, more is revealed as to how Mad Max’s world became what it is. The established power structures having failed, scavengers, criminals, and gangs were now free to assert their own modes of violent rule over others. The villains are enjoyably menacing, especially Hugh Keays-Byrne as Immortan Joe, John Howard as the People Eater, Richard Carter as the Bullet Farmer, and I also loved Melissa Jaffer as the leader of a gang of elderly motor ladies. This suggests that economic collapse caused a bloody war over fuel and other vital resources, which in turn led to the collapse of organized society. has set a theatrical Furiosa release date for June 23, 2023. Special mention should also be given to all the side characters. Which may be a hard thing to do when the movie does not focus on Max. He just didn't lend enough presence to his character in this movie. ![]() I didn't think Tom Hardy was quite as good as Mad Max as Mel Gibson was, but he wasn't terrible. George Miller‘s 2015 prequel film was years in the making before landing co-leads Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron to portray young Mad. It's not so much about Mad Max, but about road warriors in general, and specifically Theron's character. Turns out, Mad Max: Fury Road is paved with tension. She really takes the spotlight, and that is about the only criticism I can think of with this movie. And about time for a change! Charlize Theron is my new favorite actress after this (it used to be Sigourney Weaver and Linda Hamilton). Just a cast which is dominated by more women than men. Strong female characters that kick butt, is not feminism people! There's no anti-men message here. I've also heard it said that this movie contains a lot of feminism. ![]() Crucially, Mad Max happens before the unseen apocalypse that took place in the franchise’s universe. 1979’s dark, gritty, and relatively realistic Mad Max is set in the future but takes place before the world fell. So many awesome set pieces, incredible car designs, twisted and bizarre costumes and characters, and a lot of really strong warrior women as well. From all that viewers have heard, it can be said for certain that Furiosa does not take place before Mad Max. too much action? Really? Have these people never seen a Mad Max movie before? How is that a bad thing in a Mad Max movie? Fury Road feels like an 80's action movie, with a preposterously large budget, and it is GLORIOUS. ![]() People complaining that there is a lack of story and character development, and too much action. I see a lot of negative reviews for this movie popping up. ![]()
